Hello everyone!
I apologize for my absence for the last several days, it has been rather wild. In the midst of transitioning between night shift and days for work, I traveled to Bad Durkheim last Saturday for the largest wine fest in the world. I have been living in Germany for three years now, and this is the first time I have experienced it.
My friends and I arrived at about 2 pm, and only intended on staying a few hours. If you need any indication of how good of a time we had, just know that we left when they closed at 2 am.
This fest was indeed huge. As you can see in this picture, this one small alley of the fest features several numbered wine tents. There was also a large tent where a live band was playing on multiple stages and yes, people were dancing on the tables just as you have heard they do in Germany.
As is with every festival in Germany, there were many rides including a Ferris Wheel and the Slingshot (which no, I did not get on!)
The wine was absolutely delicious. I don’t care for dry wines, so I stuck with Riesling and Rose. When we got our first glasses, the lady behind the counter asked us, “mit wasser?” (with water) and we said no, of course not. Sparkling water mixed in my wine? No thank you.
Words of wisdom from someone who has been there…get the water.
Out of my three years here, I would definitely say this was one of my top five highlights in my Deutschland adventures. If you ever have the opportunity to go, it’s a must!
